Fly Day 2018

Fly Day 2018

Take Flight KC sponsored and hosted another successful Fly Day for kindergartners from Ervin Early Learning Center on September 27. This was the 7th Fly Day event, and the 2nd one that Take Flight KC sponsored and hosted. Kindergartners spent the day in Hangar 1 at the Lee’s Summit Airport touring airplanes, learning about aviation from pilots, enjoying a private airshow from KC Flight Formation Team, and meeting KCPD helicopter pilots as well as members of the Kansas City and Lee’s Summit Police and Fire Departments.

Thank you so much to all of the other sponsors and volunteers! All of the hard work is worth it to see the wonder and excitement on each child’s face.

Take Flight Takes the Zoo!

Take Flight Takes the Zoo!

We hosted our first ever Take Flight Takes the Zoo event at the Kansas City Zoo. The event was on Wednesday, September 12, 2018, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Children and adults with disabilities who live at home or with an agency were welcome and encouraged to attend this free event. They explored the Zoo and enjoyed music, light snacks, and more at the Tropics Tent!

There were 220 individuals with disabilities and their caretakers from 23 different agencies in attendance. We enjoyed cake and ice cream, music, face painting, each other’s company, and of course, the Zoo! We couldn’t have asked for a better day. We look forward to seeing everyone at our next event!

Airline Museum Fly Day

In an effort to give back to the community in which it operates, Take Flight KC board members volunteered at a Fly Day for the Independence School District’s Kid’s Safari summer school program. The event took place at the National Airline History Museum in Kansas City, Missouri, on July 18, 2018. In attendance were 130 kindergarten through middle school students. Students enjoyed touring multiple large and small airplanes including a Super Constellation, a Martin, a twin engine Navajo, a single engine formation plane, and more. KCPD flew in their police helicopter and did a Q&A. Middle school students received a special tour of the air traffic control tower. It was a great day out at the Museum!

Fly Day 2017

In an effort to give back to the Kansas City community in which it operates, Take Flight KC hosted the 6th annual Fly Day. Fly Day 2017 brought almost 600 kindergartners from Ervin Early Learning Center out to the Lee’s Summit Airport on Friday, October 6, 2017, for a day of touring airplanes, learning from pilots, meeting Lee’s Summit and Kansas City Fire and Police Departments members, enjoying a private airshow from KC Flight Formation Team, and watching the KC Police helicopter fly. We had a blast! Thank you to all other sponsors and volunteers for making the day a success.

Fly Day 2016

In an effort to give back to the Kansas City community in which it operates, Take Flight KC sponsored and hosted the 5th annual Fly Day for 600 kindergartners from the Ervin Early Learning Center. Fly Day, a creation of board president Austen Plain, is an interactive and educational event at the Lee’s Summit Municipal Airport in which the children learn from pilots, tour airplanes, meet with select members from the Kansas City Fire and Police Departments, and enjoy an exclusive airshow by the Kansas City Flight Team, a professional formation flight team that performs around the United States.

The event took place on Friday, October 14, 2016, from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm.
